Summer Is Here In Kansas!

Pumpkin Seeds are planted for the 2011 Crop!

It’s always such a relief when everything  is ordered, then planted, chemical is on the field for the weeds and the bugs, and we’re just waiting for the “show” to begin.   My fantasy is that the giant pumpkins might be planted the first part of May, but that hasn’t happened yet.  And I wonder if any Kansas pumpkin patch gets their giants planted that early.   But KSU recommends that the pumpkins be planted prior to June 15th, so that’s what we aim for.  We got started planting June 2nd and finished up on the 4th.   Carroll and I were tired, our bodies hurt,  dirty to the max, but once again relieved to have the pumpkins, gourds, and squashes planted.  Oh the joys of specialty crops on a Kansas agritourism farm!

New things are coming to Walters’ Pumpkin Patch for Pumpkin Fest 2011.   A new combine climb with slide, the second jumping pillow is in the works, and a new train station AWAY FROM THE CONCESSION EATING AREA for the barrel train.   I can hear you all cheering for this change!  And in the corn maze we’re celebrating Kansas’s 150th birthday this year….stay tuned for the aerial view later this summer.

That’s it for now……until next time, we’re down in the Patch!
